Love this controller!

What gets me about this product is: for the price I would have expected better build quality, keys, knobs and sliders all cheap and loose. This has excellent features and integration, but I wonder how long it is going to survive.
While in theory this should be a good keyboard controller there are simply too many software issues for me to really like it. I also am very bummed that after one year one of the keypads has stopped working and will not respond. I have owned many other Novation products but I can't recommend this one.

The Impulse is an amazing keyboard. Its simple, organized, and feels like a great keyboard that is meant for those who love to tinker with keys, just like I do. It is designed for the studio in mind, but also with the ruggedness of performance in mind (inherited from the LaunchKey). The keys may feel light to the touch, but they are quite responsive when hooked up to the right equipment. Same goes with the encoders and sliders. I own the 61 key, which is not exactly light, but I am fine with that cause it means that Novation put thought into the hardware to make it the best possible product it could be. I will note however, that this particular product is not designed for older computers as the older computers seem to drop the USB inputs (if you use the USB to USB connection). Would be willing to buy again and would highly recommend to a friend. Fair warning, though, is that I urge you to buy it direct from Novation as many of Novation's current resellers don't take care of these instruments (please stay away from Guitar Center and Amazon) as they tend to sell you returns.
Great features & feel. Automap makes things easy for most cases. Included Novation Bass Station sounds quite good. I wish more global params could be stored in each template like pad velocity curves, tempo, clock source.
Had it for a year now and it works perfectly. Recently I began running a cheap drum machine through it and it works fine. I upgraded to the Ableton Live Suite which really expands what can be done. I would definitely recommend it.
Solid piece of hardware. It is a central and essential part of my studio. I'm completely satisfied with it and strongly recommend it.
The unit itself works very well but I am EXTREMELY disappointed that Automap is not compatible with Sonar and even though I have expressed this NUMEROUS times to Novation they have not fixed it. I had an M-Audio MIDI controller that was working totally fine but the reason I sold it and bought the Impulse was solely because of the control that Automap offered but I can't use it because it's not compatible with my DAW
Okay, The impulse 61 was not originally on my hit list I have a number of big midi controllers Roland A90/A50 and 2 Korg T1's as well as a Yamaha KX8 and more in my home studio.where the impulse 61 won me over was the midi slider controllers. I needed Hammond b3 emulation and using a b3 emulator managed to map the Impulse 61 slide controllers to act as drawbars. It was a winner ... Overall The keyboard action is solid, no firmware issues and it's easy to use. My daughter has commandeered it for the B Studio ( using it for EDM) and now I have to source another one !! For those starting out with recording/producing there is "a lot" of keyboard here. It will take you some time to master all of it's capabilities and you will not outgrow it for quite sometime... I'm licensed for multiple DAWS , Cakewalk Sonar , Studio One vs3.0, Ableton 9.6 Live... The keyboard works great on all platforms So far it's delivered on everything I've made demands of. I have no idea what I would replace it with if I was to Upgrade. Keith
Outstanding product with some fantastic features. Highly recommended for Ableton users. Also came with the plugin version of Bass Station.
The Impulse makes any synth into a more musical instrument. Even a lowly FB-01 became an expressive synth. The slightly "porous" keys invite accurate playing. The controllers and pads are designed for maximum usefullness. Truly a "pro" keyboard.
I use this board as a controller for NI Vintage Organs and Logic/Mainstage vintage organs. I assign the faders as draw bars and all of the knobs and controls for the various aspects of a Hammond B3. It truly does a great job. The key bed is better for piano, not so great for organ. I had to learn some new ways of playing organ because of this but I give 5 stars because I knew what I was getting into before I purchased I had some questions when it was new, and I contacted customer service. I received an email in less than a day with a kind and knowledgable response. As long as they continue to produce this kind of keyboard, I will always own one.
As a semi weighted keyboard this has been perfect for my needs. I'm learning piano but with tennis elbow this allows me lighter practice that can't always be done on a piano. It also controls all my synths and vst's for logic and Ableton, aftertouch was another reason for buying it. Automap works great with ableton but not so good with logic otherwise perfect.
Seamless integration with my work flow! AutoMap yes!
There are much better controllers out there in this price range. Feels cheap and clunky
it's my only keyboard but i love impulse novation, if your a smarty youd just run it in midi. the see what you could creat using xcode or an automap SDK. it was my first keyboard that kicked booty :D 👍🏼 get it becuase why not.
I bought the Impulse 61 for its advertised ability to control plug-ins in Pro Tools. Little did I realize the ability was only for rtas plug-ins and not aax. Very disappointed.

It is indeed a great product. It is sturdy, easy to learn and use, reliable and really good for the price.

Novation's ultra-responsive, highly expressive 61-key MIDI keyboard hosts a comprehensive array of fully assignable controls, integrates seamlessly with Ableton Live, Apple Logic Pro, Avid Pro Tools and other major music software, and is built to be a true player's instrument.

Our Most Expressive Keyboard

In designing Impulse 61, Novation went all-out to create a supremely expressive performance keyboard. Ultra-responsive with semi-weighted action and aftertouch, its full-size piano style keys adapt beautifully to virtual organs, synths and pianos. Novation's High Rate Scan (HRS) technology 'reads' the keyboard 10,000 times per second, capturing every nuance and detail of your performance to an incredible degree of precision.

Produce Better Music

Take control of your mix and sculpt your sounds with Impulse 61's endless smooth-action knobs, low-profile 45mm faders, plentiful buttons and LCD screen. Each control can be manually mapped to any DAW or plug-in parameter via MIDI.

Do More with Your Drum Pads

Impulse 61's eight pressure-sensitive, backlit pads are perfect for playing and recording drum and percussion tracks, with Roll mode making light work of automatic note repeats. Going beyond beats, Arp mode uses the pads for real-time arpeggio design, while in Ableton Live, they can even be assigned as multi-coloured clip launchers – yellow for a loaded clip, green for a playing clip, or red for a recording clip.

Connect To Just About Anything

Being class-compliant and USB bus-powered, Impulse 61 only has to be plugged into a Mac or PC to get up and running – no power supply required. It's gig-ready, too, with a 5-pin DIN MIDI Out port enabling connection to hardware synths and sound modules.

Make Music Straight Out of the Box

A great controller keyboard needs great software to bring it to life, and music software doesn't get much greater than Ableton Live, the Lite edition of which is included in the box and integrates with Impulse 61's controls to provide:

• Mixer control (all channels)
• Transport control
• Clip launching (using Impulse 61's backlit drum pads)
• Scene launching
• Plug-in/Device control

Impulse 61 also ships with a massive library of Loopmasters samples.

As well as Ableton Live, Impulse 61 integrates with Logic Pro, Cubase, Reason, Sonar, Pro Tools and other major music production applications.
