Its bright shiny & red, though I prefer the Glossy finish of the Gen1 I had. It is a high quality product produces great sound with easy controls. Just remember connectivity may have your system searching to connect to a 2 channel output and this is a single channel so unless you tell the computer to look for the right thing you may as I did get sound on just one side. Knowledge is everything I am not tech qualified and was lost until someone that knew told me as they also had the same issue.

If I could give this 6 stars I would. I've been using an 1st gen 18i8 for god knows how many years, and it has never let me down. I only got the 3rd gen version because of the studio trade in offer Focusrite have been doing. There was nothing wrong with it, it was still working perfectly, I just couldn't resist a new shiny interface. I think that's me settled on Focusrite now until I die. Such good quality, robust products.

I bought this for my small studio where I've been using a USB mixer. That mixer works fine, but when I'm playing and recording, it's nice to have a visual monitor that confirms the gain levels. More importantly, I play and record brass instruments (trumpet and trombone). Typically, that means three mics -- one that I play into, and two behind me catching the reflecting sound in the room. It's important to have all three mics to get the full brass sound. With a mixing board that outputs one digital signal, that means that I'm testing and fiddling while I'm playing and recording. It's a lot of trial and error that takes time. With the Scarlett, I record three separate tracks and then mix those three in the DAW after I record to tweak the sound just right. I can pan the two reflection mic tracks to create the surround brass sounds I want. A lot less work and a lot more flexibility. I've also recorded blues harp and Hammond organ parts, too, and they're fine. I've only had it a week, so I can't speak to its durability; but it's already proven itself as a great recording tool.

I am very happy with the Scarlett 18i8 3rd Gen. I bought it as a replacement for my Saffire Pro 24 Dsp firewire, which I could no longer use after the last update of my system, and was the only one with similar inputs / outputs and two headphone outputs. As for the softwares it is a bit of a mixture of condirations: I already had Protools First and I have never been able to fully use it because it is too limited; Ableton Live Lite is not for me as I am used to all the functions of Logic Pro X. The software plugins of Fuselabs cannot be installed because the website does not respond with the registration email. I already had the other softwares. I hope the audio interface lasts at least as long as the Saffire did, and I consider it the best product in this price range.

I have no idea if this product is good or not. I bought it on May 5th. Today is May 19th, and I still have no clue if my interface was shipped or not... I sent 2 emails, 1 Twitter message, and reached through the webchat too, but NOTHING was effective to at least know what happened with my order... I'm extremely disappointed and without my interface to work with. I don't think Corona is enough to justify 14 days of silence, even after me reaching through 3 different forms of communication. I'm seriously considering to ask for a refund and buy from other brand, IF someone answers anything, because even the refund I think it will be impossible to get!

The third-generation Scarlett 18i8 is the perfect audio interface for recording engineers and producers who need to adapt to their recording environment, wherever they are.

It offers eight analogue inputs: four mic/line inputs, two high-impedance, high-headroom instrument inputs and four additional fixed-line inputs on the rear. An optical input allows for expansion of up to eight additional channels for larger recording sessions. And with improved A-D and D-A conversion, your recordings and playback will sound clear and pronounced up to 24-bit/192kHz, vital to helping you perfect your mix.

Scarlett 18i8 features four of Focusrite's best-ever-performing third-generation Scarlett mic preamps: with optional Air setting to reproduce the Air effect of their original ISA mic preamp, giving your vocal or acoustic recordings a brighter and more open sound.
